Directions to create a WWW LinkPage using Front Page Express

( Note:  Front Page Express is a simple & free HTML editor from MSIE 4.0 )

 

1. Launch  Front Page Express using  Start Button  or  ShortCut  on Desktop.

2. Front Page Express  is a simple word processor,  but used to create web pages.

 

3. Type the lines of text as they appear on the provided link page. ( Left Justified )

4. Make sure your  First and Last Name  is at the bottom  with  Institution & Date.

            ( Why should a web page have a name, institution, and date? )

 

5. Note: All of the lines of text and dividers are doubled spaced.  (Default)

6. After text has been entered & checked then use Control – A to select all & center.

 

7. When all text is centered then click to the side of selected text to de-select it.

8. Click on Format (at top of page)  then  Background.    Default Background is Gray.

 

9. Click the DropDown Arrow next to Gray Background

10. Select a light background color    then   click  OK  button to apply.

 

11. Select the top three lines and make them  Bold   Use Control – B  or  B icon

12. The top three lines should still be selected then click   Format   then   Font.

 

13. Default Font is Black, so click DropDown arrow and select a color then click OK.

14. Select last line:  Name,  Institution, and Date make last line:  Bold and Color last line.

 

15. Select the words for the link:    Teachers Discovering Computers 3rd Edition

16. Now:  Minimize  Front Page Express Web Page  and  launch Explorer or Firefox

            ( This is called multi-tasking since you are working on more than one application. )

 

17. Click on   Favorite or Bookmark   command at top of Browser and a List should appear.

18. Click the words for:    Teachers Discovering Computers 3rd Edition

 

19. Select URL (web address) & use Control - C to copy URL from web address window.

20. Click Front Page Express LinkPage   on  Task Bar  to have it re-appear full screen.

 

21. Click on the Globe/Link Icon at top of page and use Control – V to paste  URL.

22. Use Minimize & Maximize  and   Copy & Paste procedures to create the other hyperlinks.

            Why is Copy and Paste procedures best for creating Link Pages?  Why not type URL?

 

23. After all the Instructional Technology links are created then save this FPE Link Page.

24. Use the file name of:  fpelinkpage##     where    ## are your initials.

 

25. Save this Front Page Express Link Page in your  H Drive.  It should go into a folder?

26. After the Front Page Express Link Page has been saved then launch it and check it.

 

If any links do not work then use Front Page Express to open and correct link page.
