Originally used for military and research purposes.

 

The “Current” Internet

is a connection of computer systems or networks from all over the world.

It is primarily a multimedia exchange of information for benefit of all users.

Latest addition and probably most used element is the World Wide Web.

Internet Domains:   .gov .mil     .edu .com      .net .org    K-12  etc…

TCP/IP = Transfer Control Protocol / Internet Protocol

 

Mailing Lists (ListServs)             Chat Room (Instant Messages)                World Wide Web (WWW)             

Periodic Transmission of                Messages via Text, Voice, Video                  A multimedia outgrowth                

E-mail Newsletters via  PC             real time communication via PC                    of Original Internet using

Uniform Resource Locator (URL)                                      Web Site   (Collection of Web Pages)

URL is a Web Address   of a   WWW location                          Home Page & a variety of  linked Web Pages such as:

appearance similar to:    www.pbs.org                                        Target (Page),   Relative (Internal),   Absolute (External)

it use to have to be such as :  http://www.pbs.org                        Web pages are created from HTML code  or  HTML editors.

 

 

The World Wide Web (WWW)

is a multimedia addition to the Original Internet.

An interactive linking web sites & web pages using hyperlinks.

User-Friendly with Text, Graphics, Color, Sound, Video,

Animation, Audio & Video Effects, Virtual Reality used as links.
